As India prepares for I-Day celebrations, Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory for August 15th, aimed at ensuring smooth flow of traffic in the national capital. In light of the upcoming I-Day event, Delhi Traffic Police, formerly known as Delhi Traffic Police, tweeted, “On August 15, 2023, in view of #IndependenceDay celebrations, #DelhiTrafficPolice advises commuters to avoid these roads and take alternative routes to save time.”

Road Closures
According to the advisory, the following roads will be closed from Delhi Gate to Chhatta Rail, Netaji Subhash Marg from GPO Delhi to Chhatta Rail, Lothian Road, and HC to SP Mukherjee Marg. Additionally, roads such as Sen Mark to Yamuna Bazar Chowk, Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg via Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road and its link roads to Netaji Subhash Marg, the Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT, and the Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover will all be impacted. Normal traffic will resume from 4 AM to 11 AM. Only vehicles with parking labels will be allowed on these roads.

For vehicles without parking labels, alternative routes are suggested: C-Hexagon India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, DCP W-Point, A-Point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Subhash Marg, JLN Marg to escape between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmiri Gate through Ring Road, and Nizamuddin Khatta to Outer Ring Road and Salimgarh Bypass via ISBT Kashmiri Gate from 4 AM to 11 AM, the advisory noted.

While the Old Iron Bridge towards Peace Forest and Geeta Colony Bridge will remain closed, the DND-NH24 (NH9) – Yudhishthir Setu – Signature Bridge – Wazirabad Bridge route will be open for reaching Ring Road.

Commercial Transport, Ban on Bus Horns
According to the advisory, from 12 AM on August 14 to 11 AM on August 15, goods vehicles will not be permitted between Nizamuddin Khatta and Wazirabad Bridge. From 12 AM to 11 AM, interstate buses are not permitted between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT. Local city buses will not be permitted on Kashmiri Gate and Ring Road NH-24 (NH9) between Kashmiri Gate and Ring Road.

The following roads will be closed from 12 AM to 11 AM for intercity and DTC buses:

  1. Lothian Road from Chhatta Rail Chowk to Kashmiri Gate
  2. Netaji Subhash Marg from Chhatta Rail Chowk to Delhi Gate
  3. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Marg
  4. Nizamuddin Khatta (NH-24) and Ring Road between the northern loop of ISBT Kashmiri Gate
  5. C-Hexagon, Sher Shah Road, Dr. Zakir Hussain Road, Pandara Road, Shahjahan Road, Akbar Road, Rajpath, Ashoka Road, KG Marg, Copernicus Marg, Tilak Marg, Purana Qila Road, Sikandra Road, Bhagwan Das Road, and BSZ Marg
  6. From R/A Windsor Place to C-Hexagon, Ashoka Road
  7. KG Firoz Shah Road to C-Hexagon Marg
  8. Vikas Marg, beyond the circle, towards the direction of Delhi Secretariat
  9. Ashram Chowk to W-Point Mathura Road
  10. Furthermore, the police have imposed restrictions on flying paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, UV, microlights, remotely operated aircraft, hot air balloons, small-sized operated aircraft, quadcopters, or any kind of traditional flying platforms until August 15 in the Delhi-NCR region.
